The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded in 1925 by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, is a prominent socio-cultural volunteer organisation in India. Its stated approach emphasises character formation, discipline, service, cultural awareness, and collective responsibility. Over time, RSS volunteers and organisations associated with its wider network have engaged in social service, education, youth activities, cultural programmes, community development, and humanitarian assistance. This paper explores these areas through the broader concept of nation building and the role of civil society in India. It presents a thematic overview of the organisation's historical development, organisational principles, and public engagement, while identifying areas where programme-specific documentation and scholarly sources can strengthen a publication-ready manuscript.
